The Outstanding Volunteer Team award recognises the exceptional work volunteering teams do across Rural and Regional Victoria as well as Metropolitan Melbourne.

Rural and Regional Victoria

Pyramid Hill Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Cheryl Bartels, Carmen Cauchi, Cathy Ballis, Geoff Hampson, Sheridan Gunther and Vaughan Herrick

For ten years, the Pyramid Hill Community Emergency Response Team has operated an invaluable round-the-clock, medical emergency first response service. Members of this exceptional team attend in pairs when 000 is called, and provide assistance until an ambulance arrives. Members commit to rigorous ongoing training and 24 hours on the weekly roster. Often giving up family commitments and work time, the team provides an essential service in an isolated community.

Heywood Men’s Shed

Terry Sparrow, Corey Spruit and Neville Aitken

The Heywood Men's Shed is a vibrant, well-respected organisation which provides social activity and support, and community services. Open at least five days a week the Shed runs a walking group, health days and fundraisers. It collaborates with local organisations, undertakes gardening and maintenance jobs, recycles bicycles and makes billy carts with students… among other things. No project is too big or small for this ‘can-do’ group.


Metropolitan Melbourne

Day to Day Living Group Program, Merri Community Health Services

Roba Elkadi, Aishwary Nikam, Fatma Varol, Katherine Mok, Kristen Papathanasiou, Kyleigh Finn, Renee Russell, Sue Alihos and Victoria Hayes

The innovative and resourceful Day-to-Day Living program volunteer team undertakes a range of activities to improve the lives of people with mental health issues. They contribute computer skills, musical knowledge, creative abilities and culinary talents. Many use their professional training to provide additional support in areas including health promotion, nutrition and parenting skills. They work holistically and help create a warm, friendly and joyous space where people can thrive.

Truck Driver Team - Sunshine Mission, Lentara Uniting Care

George Payne and Anthony Vella

Tony and George, a caring and generous pair, have been driving the Lentara Uniting Care truck for 15 years. They do a weekly food bank pick up and collect donated goods, which they often source through their excellent community connections. They extend their friendship to others at regular community lunches. Their mateship is an outstanding example that empowers others. They are part of the life-blood of the organisation.
